Iceland

Iceland, According to Andy

This is my personal way of travelling, quiet notes on places that don’t need explaining, only feeling.

#Iceland is a loop more than a destination, the Ring Road, where you don’t decide the rhythm, you follow it.

You arrive in #Reykjavík in the afternoon, one night at @towersuitesreykjavik looking at the city from above, dinner in town, even whale, interesting but too smoked, and the next morning everything shifts.

The road starts, and so does the feeling of moving through something rather than visiting it, beginning at #Silfra Fissure with @Dive.is, floating between continents in water so pure you can drink it, no fish, just silence and cold.

Heading south, you realise nothing here is static, not even waterfalls, especially at #Skógafoss where climbing above changes everything.

You pass through Vík not for the hotels but for the #blackbeach and cliffs, and somehow a small crepes truck that feels perfectly placed.

If the weather allows it, riding with @hestarogfjoll slows everything down, once you understand that Icelandic horses respond to less, not more.

Further along, Katla Ice Cave with @trollexpeditions turns everything into black and blue, layers of ice and volcanic ash that feel even stronger in bad weather.

You keep going to Jökulsárlón with @localguide where time on the glacier makes everything quieter and more deliberate.

By the time you reach Höfn, dinner at @pakkhusrestaurant feels like the natural ending, langoustine soup and grilled lobster under a light that never disappears, before sleeping at @LiljaGuesthouse or @hotelglacierlagoon.

Then you head north, where everything changes again, and in Akureyri you go whale watching with @jcbpnznr and @whalewatchingakureyri, one of those moments that reminds you how little control you have.

You continue to Blönduós, where Inga and Magda guesthouse and her three course dinner feel completely out of place in the best way.

On the way back, keep it slow and stop at @hvammsvik , warm water, ocean and wind coming together in the right way.

No schedule, just time, weather, wind, and at least two pairs of shoes.

Play @Bjork, while driving.

Thanks to @ludoturrina that made it easy.
